Rectal MR – David Lisle

26 July @ 10:45 - 11:30

Rectal cancer is a common malignancy and represents a large ongoing health issue. First described in 1986, MR for the staging of rectal cancer has evolved into a highly accurate and clinically relevant imaging tool. MRI is vital in the selection of therapy, and increasingly, in monitoring treatment response. This lecture will illustrate the many features that can be appreciated on MRI, including: • Distance of tumour from the anal verge, and relationship to the anterior peritoneal reflection • T…

Reducing Risk and PCC – Christine Vanderley-Reichner

26 July @ 14:15 - 14:45

Often in Medical Imaging we separate out quality from the patient experience and focus on "getting the images". In my time working as a safety and quality supervisor and previously as a CT supervisor I have come across lots of scenarios that would have been improved by better communication, more listening to the patient and increased communication among team members.

Tin Filtration in CT – Peter Kutschera

27 July @ 10:15 - 10:45

Tin Filtration in CT - Since the introduction of the Siemens Somatom Force at Dandenong Hospital Monash Health in January 2017, we have explored the use of Tin Filtration in some of the more common CT examinations. My talk will explain the basic theory behind Tin Filtration, and how we used it to significantly lower dose by up to 95%, or to doses similar to X-ray. Some of the results on dose reduction have the potential to change imaging pathways which favour CT.

MRI for Investigation of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding – Bridget Sutton

27 July @ 11:15 - 12:00

Abnormal uterine bleeding is currently one of the most common reasons for pre-menopausal women to present to their GP or gynaecologist. The revised FIGO classified term incorporates both heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) and intermenstrual bleeding (IMB) and aetiologies have been divided into those considered to be structural and those deemed to be non-structural. While transvaginal ultrasound is a brilliant first-line imaging tool in the investigation of AUB, there will be a significant number of cases where it falls a little…

Several revisions have followed the initial publication in 2011. The most recent of these was in 2018. LI-RADS version 2018 include updated criteria that provide consistency with and integration into the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) 2018 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) clinical practice guidance.

28 July @ 10:45 - 11:30

Shoulder surgery and post-operative rehabilitation are increasingly common in orthopaedic practice. A wide array of surgical techniques is available to deal with common and uncommon pathologies. Most of us working in imaging in Australia and New Zealand would be very familiar with appearances of shoulder conditions including degenerative and other arthropathies, rotator cuff disorders and instability. This lecture will start with a brief review of imaging of various post-operative scenarios, including the use of appropriate terminology, and some areas of…
